Message-ID: I received this e-mail from the Exec. Producer of Turner Studios. I've worked with both his nephews and these kids have skills. One did very well last year at the campus movie fest...think he might have won best film - he's a GA Tech student. The other is an AD/PA on commercials around town. The GA Tech student is the one looking for help. I'm unavailable, but wanted to see if anyone might want to donate their help. If you are available, responsible and interested, I will pass your information (name, phone number and e-mail address) to the appropriate people. Thanks...LB *********** I have a personal favor to ask you.....my nephew Ben has an incredible opportunity since he has been asked by a very influential showbiz entity to create a 3 minute movie in the next few days. (We are under a Non-Disclosure so we can't say anything about it right now.) The shoot will be this weekend Saturday and Sunday. Think of this as the 48 Hour Film Project for those who are familiar with it. We are in need of production people who can dive into this and donate their time over the next 3-4 days....any crew positions: coordinators, DP, grip, gaffers, sound, etc. The concept is simple and it will not involve ridiculously long shoot days. One day will be at a park with some kids, and the other day will be in a studio with a very simple set. Whoever's involved will be well-fed and have a blast. Do you know anyone who might be interested? Someone looking for more experience, or who just loves the comradery of these types of independent shoots. Thanks!! Here is the information. POST PRODUCTION 101 Topics covered: Process and Flow Acquisition Types of footage Codecs and Intermediaries Compositing and Visual effects Sound design and mixing Color correcting and Finishing Distribution deliverables Thursday the 8th of March 6:00 to 9:00pm (We may run a little shorter) Bring a laptop if you have one. Just a note: This class will not cover how to use the software involved in post. It will cover what is done in post and what software can be used for each of these processes. This workshop should be good for everyone involved in every aspect of film making regardless of technical understanding of the topics. Some knowledge of what happens in post is helpful but not required. Depending on interest, there may be a couple more classes on various pieces of software that do the things we will talk about. If you are interested in learning how to composite or sound design then you should come to this class so that you can be ready for the future workshops. Also, if you can't make this workshop, I am teaching a CATME specific workshop on pretty much the same topics sometime in May. So lookout! Finally, we will hopefully have a couple magical guest teachers in this workshop so bring your magic receptor learning devices. Feel free to contact me with questions. First and foremost apologies for not getting this out sooner, sorry. There now that's done. Here's the news/updates. March 25th 2-4p.m. Push-Push (Pre-Production workshop) REQUIRED The very 1st CATME workshop, Pre-production, hosted by the one and only Linda Burns, will be Sunday March 25th. The Time isn't 100% locked in but will most likely be from 2-4. THIS MEETING IS REQUIRED FOR EACH FILM THAT WILL BE SCREENED! Not only will Linda be offering up wisdom that everyfilmmaker should know she will, will we begin the discussion and question and answer on the first couple rules of Catme. I won't promise milk and cookies, but they very well may be there. Again, this is information everyone should know, and can use, but I'm only requiring one representative (preferably the producer or director) to be there. If for some reason you cannot attend this meeting but would still REALLY REALLY REALLY like to make a film. Contact me immediately. March 14th 7-10 Nick's Place (Script discussion/spaghetti Dinner) OPTIONAL This will be an optional script discussion/spaghetti dinner, hosted by nick. The spaghetti sauce will be the finest vegetarian Prego I can afford. I'm not pretending to be a script guru, but some people involved with this project are pretty darn good at analyzing stories, and maybe they will show up, plus it always helps to get ideas out there. Of course there is no charge, but if you want to bring a beverage to drink that would rock. Please e-mail me and let me know if you're planning on attending (I'll give you directions upon rsvp) so I know how much sauce and noodles to pick up. Other News The tentative date for the production workshop (hosted by yours truly) is April 21st (possibly the 28th). The first Catme question and answer meeting was awesome and I want to thank everyone for coming. There were 30 perspective films represented and I believe if we can get even half of that will be in really good shape. Speaking of which I've already received 2 scripts and it looks we're going to have some pretty cool stuff. So keep up the good work everyone. Finally, If you've received two copies of this e-mail then you are in good shape, and I have your name on the Catme List and the "all@dailies list" If you received only one copy of this e-mail (and you're interested in CATME) that means you're only on one list or the other and you should contact me so that I can make sure you keep receiving these fabulous newsletters. If you didn't receive any e-mails please contact me, because uh, how'd you find out then, eh? That wraps up this newsletter, I'm sure there's a few things I forgot but I will do my best to keep the E-mail's limited, expect an exciting e-mail about rule#2 (casting calls) soon. This is a groundbreaking development that has been evolving for almost three years with the help of The Metropolitan Arts Fund, The Highland Group, and Theater Communications Group (TCG). March 19th from 7 to 9pm, there will be an open workshop on Artistic Planning. This will allow individual film and theater artists to make better use of New Street Arts. It's free and open to all. If you can't attend, you may want to send someone to take your place in order to be represented. -- Adam K Thompson "Master of All Things Someone Else Hasn't Already Claimed" adamkthompson@gmail.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Long Summery This is Jessica, she doesn't know it yet, but Jessica Likes To Hurt People. Jessica is a girl in her early 20s. One day she wakes and discovers 2 small creatures in her living room named Olin and Patricia. They sit her down and give her a picture book off her tomorrow. Olin informs Jessica that she will be dead by the end of the next day unless she stops several people from making a several rendezvous. So Jessica must communicate to her tomorrow self through the picture book on how to stop these people. And of course the best way to stop them is by hurting them in creative and outlandish ways. Jessica uses battle axes coat hangers, bricks and bags full of spiked batteries for her hurtings. So then Jessica likes to Hurt People, and Hurt people she does. i am currently working on revisions for the script so if you're interested let me know and i'll send you a copy. even if you can't help out as part of the crew i'd love some feedback on the project and script. here's a link to the music we're trying to get for this. the band is "the bird and the bee" the song is "i hate camera" http://www.myspace.com/thebirdandthebee thanx dig it~ From adamkthompson at gmail.com Thu Mar 29 10:23:30 2007 From: adamkthompson at gmail.com (Adam K Thompson) Date: Thu May 17 01:12:16 2007 Subject: [Dailies - Everyone] Dailies Volunteer Day at PushPush/New Street Message-ID: In order to strength our place at New Street Art we are having a volunteer day just for you filmmaker folk. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hello Film Creatures of Atlanta!! Come to Dailies First Sunday on April 2nd @ New Street Arts (Push Push Theater) from 7:30 to 9:30 for a laid back chat with the creators of "The SIgnal." The Atlanta made feature film recently premeried at Sundance 2007 and recieved rave reviews before being picked up for distribution by Magnolia Pictures. How did they do it? Stories from the set? What's next? An indie revolution in Atlanta? Is this happening? Jeremiah Prescott will moderate a conversation with the Producer, Alex Motlagh and two of the three directors, Dan Bush & David Bruckner on the creative process behind the indie horror flick. We'll also talk about current Dailies Projects; The PSA Project, and CATMA, as well as look to the future. Afterwards come around and drink @ the Corner Pub with Dailies Filmmakers both New & Old. * NOTE - "The Signal" was created primarily by Dailies' filmmakers and actors. Find out how the Dailies process is aiding Atlanta film artists to develop their talents and find their voice. 7:30 - 8:00 Meet and Greet 8:00 - 8:30 Current Dailies Projects 8:30 - 9:30 Chat with "The Signal" Afterwards - Hang @ the Corner Tavern The SIgnal producer & directors ..... Alex Motlagh was leading a fruitful career as an editor for a division of CNN when one day divine province struck and he decided to use his full first name and middle initial. The addition of the ANDER and especially the use of the ?A,? gave Alex newfound confidence and immediately transformed the aspiring filmmaker into a Movie Producer. Having now gained this new length to his name and an exciting new moniker, young Alexander A. Motlagh forged a fresh path as an independent film producer with the Atlanta based POPfilms. His first feature film project as Producer, Last Goodbye, allowed Alexander to use none of his previous skills save for his sly wit and cunning poker face.He dealt with this myriad of complications with the assuredness of seasoned pro (or at least he made it look that way). When he suited up again for his sophomore effort as film Producer, THE SIGNAL, Alexander believed he had gained all the necessary wisdom from his first outing to make the second one with great ease. He was wrong. THE SIGNAL had a whole other set of impossible odds to overcome like less money and three times as many directors to deal with. So he pushed onward and learned another massive volume of life lessons and career experience. The next film should be a breeze or he might just start adding more letters onto his name again. Dan Bush is an Independent writer and director. He studied filmmaking and anthropology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dan co-founded the theater troupe "Wish I Had Pie Productions" where he produced and directed for the stage. As a screenwriter, Dan has written several feature-length screenplays, including BEDLAM HOLLOW: A GOTHIC WESTERN, a finalist at the 2000 New York International Independent Film Festival, and YELLOW MAN, a semi- finalist for the 2nd Project Greenlight. Additionally, Dan has written and directed eleven short films, including REUNION for which he was awarded the Individual Artist grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission, and GOODBYE DAY that won Best Narrative Short, Best Drama, and Best Actor at the 2003 Dahlonega Film Festival. In 2004 Dan started Psychopia Pictures and collaborated with motion graphics designer Michael McReynolds of itaki design studio to produce two new experimental works, E-MOTION STUDIES and A DAY IN THE LIFE. Recently, he returned from Indonesia where he was a director of photography for the documentary PLAYGROUND for Bluprint films and recently completed his first independent feature, THE SIGNAL, with POP Films and Shoreline Entertainment. His next feature THE BATESON DEVICE is scheduled to begin production in fall 2007, and his feature screenplay RIFE is currently in development. First time feature director DAVID BRUCKNER plays with dark, visceral films that explore the complex choices people make in extreme situations. For some reason, he adamantly prefers doing this to most other human activities. He recently worked as one of three writer/directors on THE SIGNAL, a feature film set to premiere at SUNDANCE in January of 2007. David cut his teeth on television commercials and webisode comedy as MEDIA VS MEDIA, his market production company (co-founded with Jeremiah Prescott), and fueled Atlanta's underground indie film scene as a key player in the DAILIES project, the experimental filmmaking workshop where THE SIGNAL was conceived. David has gone on to produce, write, direct, and edit dozens of original short films, music videos, and film/theater experiments including the feature-length postmodern adaptation of Fredrick Schiller's THE ROBBERS which premiered at PUSH PUSH THEATER in Fall of 2005. Beyond just writer and director, David's work as cinematographer could be seen on big screens across the country in last summer's PSYCHOPATHIA SEXUALIS (Distributed by Kino International). David is currently developing several new feature projects. With "Rapid I" this year, filmmakers had to incorporate a coin operated machine, the number 31 and some mad-libbed dialogue from a chosen classic film - I know for the one I was in we had to work in "With $10,000 insurance, no kids and a cup that didn't like him." - fun times. To check out the films go here- Scott Balzer's short "Chicks, Man" features me and Jillian Fratkin doin' it up with blonde wigs and dark shades - it's kinda hot. There are quite a few definitely worth watching. Angelyn -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
