Due to the holiday revelry, I will extend the deadline to today end of day. Send me an e-mail by midnight with your 3 choices of organizations for PSAs. This is a valuable exercise for those who wish to work in commercial world as well as those who wish to make short and feature length films...plus it's a great addition to your reel. WORKSHOP REMINDER - open to anyone First workshop is this Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm at PushPush Theater. This workshop is mandatory and free for one member of your team...preferably the Producer or Director. All others who wish to attend - $5 - 15, pay what you can afford. Workshop will cover cold calling, getting an appointment and pitching to a non-profit client, how to work with clients to identify the message and the audience, how to work with non-profits, how to keep your clients through the edit, etc. taught by John Petrini of Toybox Productions, who won multiple Telly's last year for his non-profit work as a Director. www.toyboxproductions.com Linda B From adamkthompson at gmail.com Wed Jan 3 15:14:54 2007 From: adamkthompson at gmail.com (Adam K Thompson) Date: Thu May 17 01:12:15 2007 Subject: [Dailies - Everyone] Re: Dailies.11: Dogme.AughtSix Screenings In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I miss typed. Message-ID: Sorry for the duplications... Hey All, We at Dailies/PushPush/New Street are going to start offering some interesting workshops for indie filmmakers...outside of the project oriented workshops. To kick this off, at this Dailies 1st Sunday, we are going to screen a short Dailies film and have a discussion to help us define story terms, such as character, structure, plot, story, dramatic conflict, theme, motif, action, etc. What better way to start basic workshops and a discussion on film than to make sure we are all on the same page when we talk about things. How many times have you had a conversation about something only to find that you both are talking about different things? Although we are still ironing the whole workshop thing out, it looks like we will continue to screen shorts during 1st Sundays, but we will build a panel discussion around these films based on certain themes like pre-production, location scouting, art direction, directing actors, editing, music selection, etc. These "panel discussions" will address the basics...the core elements...the building blocks...and be free as part of Dailies 1st Sundays. PushPush/New Street will then offer, for a fee, more detailed/more in-depth classes for those interested in training in writing for film, producing shorts, directing actors, scheduling a film, budgeting a film, acting for film, post production work flow, sound design, etc. With so many fresh new faces in Dailies and so many interesting voices in the indie film community we really want to start from a strong foundation to build our community. We think that this is a great way to start. So, come join us for a screening and a lively discussion on basic script terms to be hosted by Tim Habeger, Dan Bush and David Bruckner. Robert was killed early Saturday morning, January 13th, while driving to Wilmington, NC for an audition. He was hit by a truck that crossed the median. Those are all the details that we know right now. Robert's girlfriend Stacey called yourACT to give them the news. We are all shocked and heartbroken. Robert had become very close to us over the past few years, taking classes, volunteering at yourACT, and always lending a hand. He was much more than an acting student---he had become our friend. He was reliable, funny, and just a great guy. Anyone who knew him well would agree. He will be greatly missed. We are planning a memorial service at Sketchworks Theatre, which we will announce through the yourACT email newsletter, and probably the Sketchworks newsletter too. Will also post to the message boards and MySpace bulletin board. We need to find out from his family about the funeral services first to see when would be appropriate. Please say a prayer for his family and friends, and please tell others who knew Robert. (adapted from Bob Harter's post) ************ Robert and I were working together on a Dailies PSA. He already had a charity in mind because he did volunteer work for a local group. He read to underprivledged children. We've worked together several times, and he was always an optimist, and never afraid. I'm stunned. Every word I write seems trite and small and pointless. I don't have the vocabulary to give weight to this loss. I expected to see and have a drink with him tonight. I've worked with a lot of people in the past few years. He was one of the few that would call me up from time to time just to see how things were going. I was looking forward to working with him on the PSA. Once, I made him dress up like a clown-- somewhat against his will. I promised him I would make it up to him one day with a great role. A serious role. Over the last year we talked a lot about things that we should collaborate on, but I kept procrastinating. I've been staring at the screen for a few minutes now, not sure how to end this.
